Made in the mid-15th century and presented to James II in 1457, Mons Meg began as front-line siege technology, not museum display. It later became a symbol of royal power and Scotland’s military links with Burgundy before settling into ceremonial retirement at Edinburgh Castle. Today, it gives visitors one of the clearest physical links between the castle’s medieval defenses and its later artillery story.
