Unfortunately, buying the ticket was not as I had imagined. I thought I would get a barcode and that would be the entrance fee. That wasn't the case and I still had to queue at the ticket office.

A beautiful castle with a lot of historical background. The audio guide made it easy and convenient to get all the important information. It's essential to book admission in advance so that you can make the most of the excursion.

Loved that it was a self guided tour. The Palace was well worth visiting, however, very dissapointed we could not visit the gardens. No where when I booked the tickets did it say the gardens would b closed.

What I would like to comment, and that does not appear is that I had a very good experience with the guided tour of Edinburgh Castle, very good guide. About Holyrood I can't add much, I already wrote about it at another time, since it is only about the purchase of tickets, they were available.

The reservation through the web was very easy to make and upon arrival at the palace was very fast the procedure to enter. What you see of the palace on the visit is impressive, not all the rooms of course, and unforgettable. They do not let you take pictures in the rooms, only in the cloister. The remains of the Abbey are beautiful but they don't let you enter it either.

The size of Holyrood Palace compared to Windsor made it much more intimate and pleasant to experience. The history added a lovely element to the tour.

The day we arrived in Edinburgh due to weather problems we could not land and lost the palace ticket we had with headout and two others with civitatis. I sent an email to both to be able to book again. In the two with civitatis they did not compensate me with anything, but, headout gave us a 25% on the new reservations. Thank you very much, it has been a pleasure to book with you, and it is an attention that must be valued as it deserves. Thank you very much indeed. And the experience was great. Thank you, thank you

I will be challening this charge the minute I get back home in the US. Your website charged me for a visit that couldn't possibly happen. My wife & I walked miles from our hotel to get to Holyrood, AFTER buying tickets for that day and the place was CLOSED! You sold us passes to a venue that was CLOSED!!!!! We feel as though you stole our money. If it is not FULLY refunded soon we will challenge it & I am very positve our bank will refund the money. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. An employee at Holyrood & another shop owner told us others have also had this very same complaint. You all need to get your crap together & stop doing this to people!

It's a great way to tour the city and see the sights. Unfortunately, on The Edinburgh Tour green bus, the only language offered was English, but several languages were available on the other two tours. Stops and directions are well indicated. We liked the fact that the 48-hour ticket period begins when the ticket is validated.

EdinburghHolyrood Palace

Holyroodhouse Palace | Official residence of the monarch in Scotland

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the King’s official residence in Scotland, tucked at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. Once home to Mary, Queen of Scots, it features 16th-century royal apartments, 12th-century abbey ruins, and rooms still used for royal ceremonies—all open to the public, unless royalty’s in town.

Why visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse?

Palace of Holyroodhouse
  • Royal residence: It’s the official residence of the British monarch in Scotland, still used by King Charles III for state ceremonies and official events when he’s in Edinburgh.
  • Historic interiors: Check out the rooms filled with ornate plaster ceilings, original 17th-century furniture, priceless paintings and centuries-old tapestries from France and Flanders.
  • Ancient abbey: Wander through the haunting ruins of Holyrood Abbey, founded in 1128 by David I. It once held royal weddings, coronations, and burials right next to the palace itself.
  • A leafy escape: Take a breather in four hectares of landscaped gardens with views toward Holyrood Park. These royal grounds even feature rare trees like the legendary Wentworth Elm!
  • Intersection of art & history: Eighty-nine portraits line this Great Gallery, showing off Scottish monarchs from ancient legends to actual kings. It’s the palace’s largest room and is packed with art commissioned by Charles II.

Unfortunately, buying the ticket was not as I had imagined. I thought I would get a barcode and that would be the entrance fee. That wasn't the case and I still had to queue at the ticket office.
